|BEST OF SACRAMENTO GOODIE BAG MASTERS CLUB MEMBERS NEWSLETTERS WEDDINGS RESTAURANTS WINE|
I’m blogging to let you know that one of our own has opened a restaurant. So be forewarned, this isn’t an unbiased review; it’s an announcement, and a bit of a gushing one at that. Hey, we love our peeps, what can I say?
OK, Barwest co-owner Trevor Shults does not work for Sacramento Magazines Corporation, but his wife, Carla, is one of our longtime sales leaders. We love Carla, and Trevor is a great guy, so we are claiming him as well.
Barwest is the brainchild of Trevor and business partner Todd Zancaner. The restaurant is located at 2724 J St., next to Harlow’s and on the same block as Centro.
The menu skews heavily toward burgers and wings (9 different flavors of wings, including “Barwest Original”), but if that’s not your speed, it also lists sandwiches, hot dogs and salads, and a “Burger Bowl,” where you can have your burger in a salad instead of on a bun. Sides include deep-fried pickles. One very special item: the Austin Dog, which comes with cheddar cheese, onions, jalapeños, and housemade chili, named after Carla and Trevor’s baby boy, born July 3. (This past July 3. Trevor has his hands full.)
The place is called “Barwest” so, yes, it does have a full bar. Adult beverage options of note: 14 beers on tap, selection of craft beers and “alcoholic slushies.”
And with 15 flat screens (with DirecTV and NFL Ticket) and a digital jukebox, it’s a place to gather and watch the game or just relax after work.
What about a late-night scene, you ask? Hey, Trevor put nightlife on the map. (See the next paragraph.) The bar stays open until 2 a.m. every night. Restaurant hours are Monday–Friday 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 9 a.m.–11 p.m. (They are open for breakfast on weekends).
Trevor may be new to restaurant ownership, but he is not new to managing events. His impressive resume includes being events manager for the Paragary Restaurant Group, general manager of Blue Cue and assistant manager of the Cosmo Cafe. In addition to Barwest, Trevor is the general manager and co-owner of Social Nightclub. Hey, the guy even had a BIG hand in planning his own wedding. Gotta love that!
There. I’m done. Gosh, if I didn’t like this couple so much I’d be disgusted with myself by how fawning this blog sounds. But I do like them, and I wish them well. Consider checking out Barwest this weekend—it’s the grand opening—and support a couple of local guys making a go of it in the Midtown restaurant scene.
