I stood in the pouring rain this week and watched in amusement as bundled-up downtown workers raced through the wet weather to order lunch from the Leaven & Earth food truck. Many of them were greeted by name as they approached the truck window, and, while patrons waited for their sandwiches and wraps to be assembled, they huddled and chatted cheerily amongst themselves. A beloved downtown dining institution, Leaven & Earth has been on the same corner for 9 ½ years. Sink your teeth into the fabulous, garlicky “Angie” sandwich (whose ingredients include pulled roasted chicken and artichoke hearts) and the toothsome “Tony” wrap (stuffed full of grilled chicken strips, cheddar cheese, roasted red bell peppers and lettuce with a yummy honey mustard) and you’ll understand why people brave the bad weather to make the trek out to the truck for lunch. Note: I’ve been told the truck’s homemade soups are also terrific.
