When you’re cruising the wine aisle, contemplating labels and weighing your options, don’t forget that the Sacramento region produces some outstanding wines. Two I tried recently that I would recommend with enthusiasm are the Boeger 2009 Sauvignon Blanc – light, herbaceous and a little flinty, with a delicate floral aroma, it would pair beautifully with scallops and shrimp; or pour it with a first-course salad (especially if it has a pat of warm baked goat’s cheese on it). I thoroughly enjoyed the Sobon Estate 2009 Amador County “Old Vines” Zinfandel, whose approachable jammy-plummy-spicy flavors would be a great partner for barbecued ribs, garlicky leg of lamb, or even a fat slice of your favorite pepperoni pizza.
