Over the past several years, Sacramento has seen the opening of several delightful new bakeries, including Estelle’s Patisserie, Sugar and Spice Specialty Desserts and TreyBcakes. And while I enjoy visiting these establishments occasionally, Freeport Bakery in Land Park remains my go-to bake shop when I need flavorful, beautifully-crafted desserts. This cozy, friendly neighborhood treasure is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, so I suggest you pop in soon to try its famous cakes (don’t miss the ultra-chocolate Blackout cake or the Champagne cake – golden buttermilk cake layers sprinkled with Champagne, filled with strawberry custard mousse and frosted in pale pink buttercream); the cookies (I love the Mexican wedding cake cookies) and the kitchen’s scrumptious quiches and potato knishes.
