Wine of the Week: 2008 Peltier Station Zinfandel

It’s always fun to find approachable, food-friendly red wines. But when I’m in the mood for a big, assertive, lusty red wine that brims with personality – and one I enjoy savoring all by itself – I’ll often reach for a Zinfandel. I found one of these zingy, huge reds recently, made by Lodi's Peltier Station. The winery’s 2008 Zinfandel is powerful and appealing, smacking the palate with brambly, earthy, intense blackberry-dried cherry flavors overlaid with subtle, lingering nuances of tobacco, mushroom and blueberry. Complex and interesting, this Zinfandel was a delightful discovery.
