Wine of the Week: Matchbook 2010 Malbec

Posted on September 10

I discovered a scrumptious Malbec recently made by Crew Wine Company in nearby Zamora. The 2010 Matchbook Malbec is composed of 75% Malbec, 14% Syrah and 11% Petit Verdot, resulting in a complex, layered, and undeniably zippy red that can stand up to bold, full-flavored (and even spicy) foods. Featuring a sturdy structure, elegant balance and soft tannins, this dark, inky-purple wine offers smoky, tobacco-tinged ripe fruit flavors of blackberry and blueberry, with a figgy, cocoa-cinnamon finish. I enjoyed its jammy, berry aromas, with enticing, perfumey hints of violet and mocha.
