I savored a scrumptious white wine this week crafted by Nevada City Winery – the 2010 Sonata is a crisp, fruity, easy-drinking wine composed of 58% Sauvignon Blanc and 42% Chardonnay. We don’t often see a balanced blend of these two grape varieties, yet after trying the wine I wondered why – it’s packed with invigorating pear-apple flavors that are enhanced by a zesty, vibrant citrus hit on the palate; and the perfumey aroma is floral and redolent of ripe apples. This is an approachable, fun white wine that’s perfect for our warmer spring weather, and would pair beautifully with everything from grilled fish and shrimp to roast chicken, cheese, quiche and lighter pasta dishes. Tip: Serve this wine at a casual al fresco dinner with friends.
