I finally had a chance to check out The Coconut Midtown, a new Thai restaurant that inhabits a space on J Street that has housed a seemingly endless lineup of eateries. After a terrific meal at this small restaurant, it’s my hope that this is one establishment that will sink roots and stay put.
Standouts on the menu included meaty, juicy chicken pot stickers; a vegetable-crammed, fragrant green curry punctuated with large chunks of salmon; and a generous pile of grilled praram chicken with a vivacious peanut sauce. But the star of the evening was the kitchen’s wonderful mango sticky fried rice, served with a scoop of creamy, textural coconut ice cream.
