Zelda’s: A Midtown Institution

Posted on October 7

Yes, the waitresses can be abrupt; yes, it can be a bit dark; and yes, the wait for Zelda’s menu items can seem interminable. BUT – this beloved midtown dining institution has been around for 35 years. There’s a reason why: its distinctive deep-dish pizza. Constructed with a crust that’s more similar to a sturdy pie crust, the dense, thick, topping-laden pizzas come in an enticing array of flavors. Try the “Spinoccoli,” piled with garlicky spinach, broccoli, tomatoes and an array of cheeses; or the breath-ruining “Everything,” whose toppings include sausage, pepperoni, green peppers, onions and anchovies.

If you don’t feel like waiting at the table for your meal, call the restaurant at (916) 447-1400 and order your pizza a half an hour before you arrive – it will be ready for you when you are seated. Zelda’s also offers partially pre-cooked pizzas that you can finish baking at home, as well as frozen pizzas. Call for details.
