Hop to The Red Rabbit

Posted on July 8

Sacramento’s scorching summer days transform beautifully into balmy, comfortable, warm summer evenings—the perfect environment for outdoor dining. This week we dropped in to midtown’s The Red Rabbit Kitchen & Bar to dine outside at one of the restaurant’s community tables and revel in the temperate weather. Interestingly, there was no wait service at the outdoor tables—we had to walk into the bar to order when we wanted something. The items were then delivered to us outside by waitstaff—an odd system that left us scratching our heads. However, our meal was terrific—a “Shorty Melt” sandwich was the star of the evening: fork-tender braised boneless short rib meat was packed into ciabatta bread, paired with melted white cheddar cheese and a palate-warming Cajun remoulade—a satisfying, full-flavored nosh. Other standout menu items included the crusty, palm-sized salmon cakes, served up with a vivacious chili-lime sauce; and the kitchen’s lamb and goat cheese-stuffed agnolotti. We ended the meal on a sweet note—the restaurant’s signature “Twix Tart,” which features a shortbread cookie crust filled with chocolate ganache and caramel, was a definite crowd-pleaser.
