Check it Out: La Superior Market

Posted on February 4

What do you do when you’re traveling along Stockton Boulevard with a carful of hungry kids? Stop in at La Superior Market, one of the city’s best – and friendliest – Mexican grocery stores. The market’s in-store taqueria offers an array of (very reasonably priced) traditional goodies, from tacos and chile relleno to fajitas – though the younger set in my family favor the toothsome cheese and beef (asada) quesadillas. Make sure to order the kids a cup of the taqueria’s excellent aguas frescas – on a recent visit we savored both the melon and lemon-lime varieties; and horchata - a sweet (and very thirst-quenching) beverage made from rice – is also available. Note to shoppers: La Superior has a great selection of produce, bulk chiles, spices and Mexican pastries.
