I was charmed by a delightful Chardonnay recently, crafted by local Nevada City Winery. The 2009 Nevada County Chardonnay offered vanilla-kissed aromas of ripe melon and green apple, leading into a beautifully balanced white showcasing bright, sunny flavors of green apple and zippy citrus, layered with toasty, oaky notes that rounded the wine out nicely on the palate. This lighter style Chardonnay, with its vibrant personality, would be a terrific partner with shellfish dishes, cream-based pastas, roast pork, turkey and chicken (and chicken pot pie!) and cream-based soups.
