I discovered a charming tea room in downtown Davis, located on D Street behind the popular Mustard Seed restaurant. Cozy Tea List specializes in a wide array of teas and tisanes, but also offers an appealing selection of sandwiches, soups and salads in addition to afternoon and high tea service (minimum service for 2 people; parties of 3 or more require a reservation 24 hours in advance).
On a recent lunch at Tea List I relished the kitchen’s huge smoked turkey sandwich, smeared with pesto and enlivened with Swiss cheese and tomatoes; and the refreshing chicken salad—dotted with walnuts and composed on Romaine lettuce leaves—was another winner. But the best part of the lunch was nibbling on Tea List’s delicate, fragrant pistachio, chocolate and rose-flavored macarons, which were as delicious as they were beautiful.
