The Christmas tree at the State Capitol is big and majestic--our own version of the tree in Rockefeller Center in New York City. The lights turned on for the first time this year yesterday, when Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and First Lady Maria Shriver presided over the State Capitol Christmas Tree Lighting. Legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk hosted the festivities, including performances by Grammy award-winning artists Brian McKnight and Thelma Houston. Didn't make it? And should you decide to drive by the Capitol one evening this month to see the tree, take note: The lights turn on at 5 p.m. and shut off at midnight. The tree itself is located near the west steps.
