Twenty-two years ago, Sacramento State nursing professor Joyce Mikal-Flynn died after drowning in a pool following a relay race. Her heart stopped and she went through 22 minutes of CPR before she came back to life. She suffered major brain trauma due to the lack of oxygen. Today, Flynn is 57 years old and perfectly healthy, with an advanced degree and a new book that tells the inspiring story of how she turned dying and coming back to life into personal triumph in her book, Turning Tragedy Into Triumph. The book focuses not just on Flynn’s personal journal, but also on multiple traumatic events and includes moving stories from many different survivors.
Flynn has a book signing on Nov. 17, where you are invited to meet her, discuss the book and even exchange your own experiences. For more information, click here.
