The Optimist Club of Sacramento is holding its 30th annual golf tournament on Friday, May 18 at Whitney Oaks Golf Club. The deadline to register was May 4, but I spoke with club member (and friend) Flavio Soria and I learned there is room for three more foursomes to join in. Why the push? Well, in addition to getting a fun day of golfing, lunch and dinner, participants are helping out five great local charities: Mercy Education Resource Center, St. John’s Shelter Program for Women and Children, Mercy Foundation, Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services and The First Tee of Greater Sacramento. Flavio tells me there will be a unique raffle of sorts: Participants buy golf balls to be part of a helicopter drop; whoever’s ball goes into the hole first wins! The cost is $150 per person and includes greens fees, cart, range, lunch and post-tournament steak dinner. Registration is at 10:30 a.m., barbecue lunch at 11:30 a.m. and the four-person scramble starts at 12:30 p.m. Whitney Oaks Golf Club is located at 2305 Clubhouse Drive in Rocklin.
