If you are looking for a meaningful way to acknowledge the 11th anniversary of 9/11, consider participating in the Run To Remember this Sunday, Sept. 9.
The event features both a 5k run/walk and a 10k run; both start at 9:11 a.m. at Capitol Mall and Fourth Street in Sacramento. As you cross the finish line, you will be handed an American flag, which you are then asked to place in the pentagon-shaped memorial next to a plate engraved with the name of an American who did not return home on Sept. 11. The completed memorial, with nearly 3,000 flags, will be a tribute those who lost their lives.
To register, find out information about parking, check out the courses and make a donation to the Sacramento Area Firefighters Widows and Orphans Fund (which will then be divided among Sacramento area firefighters, sheriff and police widows and orphans funds as well as the Wounded Warrior Project), click here.
Afterward, stay for Tribute in the Park, taking place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Capitol Park.
