The Sacramento Old City Association is putting on its 38th annual tour of historic Sacramento homes, this time focusing on five homes in the Mansion Flats neighborhood in downtown. The tour includes the Historic Governor's Mansion and the infamous Dorothea Puente House, where Ms. Puente poisoned her boarders to collect their Social Security checks. Seven bodies were found buried on the premises in the 1980s. For those not interested in Sacramento's macabre past, the other homes on the tour showcase a wide variety of architectural styles, including some new green technology integrated into the historic housing. SOCA also offers a walking tour that takes participants past the exteriors of some of the more impressive and significant landmarks, houses and businesses in the Mansion Flats area. For information, see here.
