This humble metropolis has been given a rare (and delicious) gift this year in the form of a little something called the Festival of Cheese. For the uninitiated, the Festival of Cheese is the national's premiere cheese trade show (what, you didn't know that was a thing?) and is hosted by the American Cheese Society. This year's festival is making its way to the Sacramento Convention Center on Aug. 1 and 2 and will feature more than 1,600 different cheeses entered in the 2014 ACS Competition. Visitors to the festival will have the chance to sample the winning cheeses made by masters of the craft. Guests will also be able to check out artisan producers, both local and from afar, of cheese accompaniments like crackers, charcuterie, preserves, honey, chocolate, wine and craft beer (the last of which guests will be able to sample in their commemorative wine glasses). For $60, guests have access to unlimited cheese, food and beverage samples, and can visit the cash bar for harder drinks. For those unwilling to plop down $60, there is also a cheese sale on Saturday, where visitors can get bargain prices on award-winning cheeses. It looks like Sacramento's reputation for being a food city is really paying off. For more information on cheese festivities, see here.
