Steelin’ Dan

Posted on February 5

There are so-so tribute bands, and there are great tribute bands—the kind that make sure every nuance and detail is dead-on. Steelin’ Dan, which performs Feb. 8 at Harlow’s, is one such band. As a scary-obsessive Steely Dan fan who has seen this local group several times, I say this with some authority. With powerhouse musicians, including a host of horns and female background singers, they replicate Steely Dan’s complex jazz-tinged tunes (such as “Kid Charlemagne and “Green Earrings”) as accurately as their straight-ahead rockers (“Reelin’ in the Years”), and deliver it with punch and panache, too.

For tickets and information, visit harlows.com or call (916) 441-4693. Visit the band’s website; it’s steelindan.com.
