I’m definitely a city girl, but I enjoy escaping into nature every once in a while. Living in Northern California, one of my favorite escapes—and one I don’t get to make as often as I’d like—is to the gorgeous Lake Tahoe/Truckee area. You just can’t beat it as a destination for “hikes with a view,” cycling and running. (And with the change in altitude, a more challenging workout; I did a half marathon once near Donner Pass that showed me in no uncertain terms who’s boss.) But you don’t have to be active to enjoy this region. There are great shows and restaurants, lodging ranging from cute and cozy to over-the-top luxurious, and, of course, if you hit the Nevada side, gambling.
It’s not surprising that the Tahoe area is a popular wedding destination for couples. For our Winter/Spring 2014 issue of Our Wedding magazine, I am writing about four different Tahoe-area places that are prime for weddings and receptions. Trust me when I say there is something for everyone and in every season—winter, spring, summer and fall. You can go small and quaint or enjoy take-it-to-the-nines glamour. There’s a place for the golfer, the outdoor sports enthusiast, those who enjoy hitting the slots and those who simply enjoy the beautiful backdrops that this area offers. There are options for outdoor ceremonies as well as receptions in high-rise ballrooms. Writing the story, I felt a little like Goldilocks—I wanted to try each place!
Look for the story in Our Wedding, hitting stands this November.
