In early 2010, restaurateur brothers Mason, Alan and Curtis Wong closed their downtown restaurant Mason’s, renovated the space and retooled the menu for a droopy economy. The result? Cafeteria 15L, where the Wongs serve modern, approachably priced comfort food in a casual yet stylish environment. The restaurant is lively and bright, more charmingly utilitarian and less self-consciously cool than its former incarnation. (Hint: It doesn’t look like a cafeteria.) The menu places an emphasis on fun fare, such as mac ’n’ cheese, tater tots (made with mashed potato and ground beef), and fried chicken and waffle with gravy and pecan butter.
