Since opening in 1960, this has been Sacramento’s go-to restaurant for both romantic atmosphere and historic charm. Housed in an actual 1853 firehouse, it’s white tablecloth all the way, with crystal wine glasses, ornate chandeliers and a sweeping staircase. The outdoor courtyard is perhaps the prettiest in town, and its cooling canopy of trees sparkles at night with tiny white lights. The food is special-occasion worthy, from the lobster risotto and foie gras duet to the steak Delmonico served with caramelized shallot-tomato butter. The stellar wine list represents more than 2,200 labels from the world’s top wine regions.
