It’s asparagus season, and if you’re like me, you’re reveling in this distinctive and tasty early spring produce. The jaunty green stalks are appearing on many local restaurants’ menus, and one of the most appealing preparations I’ve discovered lately is at Magpie Café in midtown. Al dente chunks of fresh, juicy Delta-grown asparagus are enfolded into a sumptuous, absolutely delicious macaroni and cheese, punctuated with salty-satisfying bites of applewood-smoked bacon and liberally sprinkled with toasted breadcrumbs.
