It’s an exciting week in Sacramento. From Sept. 20 through 29, local farms, restaurants, wineries, craft breweries and businesses are all joining together to celebrate the Sacramento region as the nation’s Farm-to-Fork Capital.
The mission of the Farm-to-Fork movement is to bring awareness to the Sacramento region’s local food production, consumption and sustainability, as well as the contribution and exportation of sustainable products to the rest of the nation and world. Here’s a few events to keep an eye on this week:
Saturday, Sept. 28, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m – Capitol Mall (between Third and Seventh streets in downtown Sacramento)
The free-to-the-public Farm-to-Fork festival will feature a wonderful selection of farm-to-fork offerings that are available in the Sacramento region. From local chefs, farmers and other food producers to food trucks, animal displays, a kids’ zone and live music performed by Elvin Bishop, festival attendees can expect to learn more about the food we eat -- from its source to the plate. In addition, the special farm-to-fork activities will be accompanied by lively food demonstrations, a beer garden and a wine pavilion.
California Restaurant Association’s Restaurant Week
Presented by the California Restaurant Association Sacramento chapter, Farm-to-Fork Restaurant Week is a celebration of our local foodscape and a showcase of the bounty of seasonal ingredients found within a 75-mile radius of the downtown core. Dozens of area restaurants are hosting special events, menus and opportunities to meet the region’s farmers, winemakers and brewers.
Legends of Wine
Thursday, Sept. 26, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. – State Capitol, West Steps
Attendees will have a unique opportunity to sample and learn more about some of the region’s most celebrated wines, selected by two of Sacramento’s internationally-recognized enological gurus – Darrell Corti and David Berkley. With the State Capitol as a backdrop, a wide array of award-winning wines will be paired and presented with artisan cheeses and freshly baked breads. “Legends of Wine” tickets cost $50 per person (for adults 21 years of age and older) and include an inaugural Farm-to-Fork wine glass, wine sampling and food sampling. Tower Bridge Dinner (Sold Out)
Sunday, Sept. 29 at 4:30 p.m. -- Tower Bridge
Tickets for the inaugural Farm-to-Fork Tower Bridge Dinner sold out within eight hours. Confirmed guests will be treated to a memorable dinner with a special Farm-to-Fork menu created by a number of Sacramento’s top chefs and restaurants.
