Placer County and Nevada County residents interested in relishing locally raised beef, chicken, lamb and pork should know about the meat buyers club through Sierra Foothills Producers. Available from Sinclair Family Farm in Penryn, the meat selections (available for monthly pickup) range from lamb roasts and riblets to country pork sausage and chops, beef steaks and even soup bones. The Sinclair family, whose goal is to operate an economically and environmentally profitable business that “seeks to serve the local community,” raises its animals on pastures untreated with pesticides or other chemicals. The livestock are not given any hormones or growth-promoting additives. This naturally raised meat is part of a larger array of locally grown products available through Sierra Foothills Producers, a consortium of small, family-owned farms and ranches (organized by Sinclair Family Farm) offering consumers the opportunity to order items such as in-season fruits and vegetables, meats, preserves, bread, eggs (including duck and quail eggs), honey and cheese.
