Arts Giving Day
The Pence Gallery will participate in the first Arts Giving Day, a 24-hour online challenge, to encourage patrons to “give where their art is” all day long, beginning on 4:29 am on Monday, April 29th. Together with other Yolo and Sacramento arts organizations, the Pence will celebrate the arts in several locations in Davis on that day. The challenge, organized by GiveLocalNow, in partnership with the Sacramento Region Community Foundation and Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission, asks arts lovers to view their favorite organization’s profile via the website www.givelocalnow.org. Donations from $25-$10,000 will help participating arts groups win prizes, and all donations are matched to a percentage of the total giving. “The Pence helps to grow and support the arts in the region through offering a dynamic exhibit program of work by local and regional artists, thus our theme for our activities is all about growth.” Muralist Anthony Padilla, best known for his recent solar-powered mural in Sacramento, will be creating a mural with spray paint from 11 am -1 pm at Davis Commons, corner of E Street and 1st Street. Artists from UC Davis will be drawing flowers using chalk, and visitors are welcome to add onto their designs. Music by DJs, speeches from Davis Mayor Joe Krovoza and arts professionals from participating organizations are scheduled, and dance performances by PDA: Public Dance Acts, with music by the West Nile Ramblers, will appear at the Commons as well. Donors can receive discounts on food and other items if they show receipts to participating businesses at the Commons. For a list of businesses, see givelocalnow.org. Beginning at 6:30 PM, the Pence will continue arts activities in the Mondavi Center Corin Courtyard, share information, and hand out great free items for donors until 8 PM, when the highlighted performance by Alvin Ailey Dance Company begins.
