Colla Voce Winter Concert: Lux Aeterna: Songs of Light

Colla Voce Chamber Singers will usher in the season traditions with a candlelight concert experience, featuring music from many customs and cultures. The experience was designed by Artistic Director, Janine Dexter with the hope of creating multi-sensory beauty that accentuate the mystery and wonder of the traditions embraced at the closing of each year.

The songs include a variety of genres from early Latin chant, Rachmaninoff, Lauridsen and Whitacre, to traditional Chanukah folk songs, music celebrating light, dawn and solstice and familiar, well-loved Christmas melodies. The Chamber Singers are collaborating with choreographer Debbi Sampson and Pamelot School of Dance to present the Scandinavian Winter Solstice story of Santa Lucia Queen of Light. In the custom of Colla Voce, the audience will be involved in the creation of the experience.

Opening night is Saturday, December 8, at Grace Lutheran Church in Grass Valley, beginning at 7 pm. Auburn’s concerts are Sunday, December 9, at Pioneer Methodist Church, a matinee at 3 pm and an evening concert at 7 pm.

Tickets may be ordered online at www.collavoce.org or by calling (530) 305-1316. Ticket prices are $15 for general admission, $12 for seniors and students, and $2 for ages 17 and under.

Under the artistic direction of Janine Dexter, the ensemble has gained a loyal audience of music lovers and has received radiant reviews. Their CD, “A Colla Voce Christmas”, can be purchased from the website or at the concerts.
