Sacramento Speaker Series: Robert Ballard
Apr 2, 2013
Robert Ballard is an underwater archaeologist, geophysicist, and educator. But he is best known for his amazing deep-sea discoveries: of the Titanic, the Bismarck, the USS Yorktown (while on a secret mission for the Navy, with the Titanic as his cover story) and John F. Kennedy’s PT-109. He was in the first team of scientists to view the deep-sea vents, and has been on more than 120 deep-sea expeditions. He shares his enthusiasm for deep-sea exploration with 1.7 million students a year, who join scientists virtually through his JASON Project.
The Sacramento Speakers Series provides an open forum for the exchange of ideas, opinions, and perspectives as well as the enrichment of the Sacramento community.
