The Sacramento District Council, Society of St. Vincent de Paul, is pleased to announce that Dr. Jim Tunney, the “Dean of NFL Referees”, will be the featured speaker at its 7th annual “Benefit for the Poor” dinner on Thursday evening April 18, 2013 at the Red Lion Hotel – Woodlake. Dr. Jim Tunney is also the recipient of the Cavett Award – the Oscar of Professional speaking.
Dr. Jim Tunney, a lifelong Catholic, has enjoyed exemplary careers as an educator, NFL referee, professional speaker, and author. In 31 years as an NFL referee, he officiated three Super Bowls, ten NFC/AFC Championship games, six Pro Bowls, and 25 Monday Night Games.
Dr. Jim Tunney received his Doctorate in Education from the University of Southern California and is the founder of the Jim Tunney Youth Foundation to support local community programs that develop leadership, work skills, wellness and self-esteem in youth.
As an author, Jim Tunney has written three books: Impartial Judgment, Chicken Soup for the Sports Fan’s Soul, and It’s the Will, Not the Skill.
