Angels for Hearts, Inc. is the product of a Sacramento family, the Kaufman’s. The Kaufman’s daughter Kimberly, old was diagnosed with congestive heart failure in 2004 at the age of 29. The Kaufman Family is mindful of the experience they and hundreds of other families have endured with heart related procedures and long stays in hospitals. They learned firsthand that many of these families and patients, particularly the youngest patients, need help and support. Angels for Hearts was incorporated as a charitable, public benefit corporation; Angels for Hearts is a Non Profit 501(c)(3) organization; Tax ID #26-3287958. Kimberly is not a heart transplant candidate and has a less then normal life expectancy.
The Kaufman family learned that while a child is in the hospital there is no sense of normal. Children especially need to have some sense of normalcy to help them in their recovery process. Angels for Hearts is founded on the idea of making sure that pediatric heart patients (ages 0-17) keep some sense of normalcy of being a kid even when they have pediatric heart issues and grow up in a hospital setting.
On Saturday, August 3rd, 2013, Angels for Hearts, in conjunction with the Children’s Miracle Network at UC Davis Children’s Hospital will hold its 5th Annual “When I Grow Up…” Event. The event will be located at the UC Davis Mind Institute from 11:00am to 2:00pm. The Mind Institute is located at 2825 50th Street, Sacramento, CA 95817; on the campus of the UCD Medical Center. This event will enable pediatric heart patients to experience meeting and talking face to face with the professionals they dream about being when they grow up. The children will be able to enjoy meeting fireman, policemen, doctors, nurses, chefs, pilots, athletes, political leaders and other role models. Angels for Hearts goal is to help the heart kids remember that their dreams are only limited by their imaginations. We want to help these children to remember that first and foremost they are kids before they are heart kids.
Our event 'When I Grow Up...' is for families that have a child ages 0-17year old that has a heart issue. We invite the entire family, the heart kids, siblings and parents/guardians to come and just enjoy a day as a family. For many heart families our events are the only times where they are with other families that have kids with the same medical issue. For some families it may be the first time their heart child or the sibling has ever met another heart child or sibling of a heart child. Our 'When I Grow Up...' event is not a career fair the theme of the event is 'When I Grow Up...'. Since so many heart kids spend so much time in the hospital and they dream just like any child about what they want to grow up to be we just have a party where we bring them the people they dream about becoming when they grow up. Our event is just a day for families to have a fun day and enjoy being a family and not have to worry about being a heart family, For Angels for Hearts our hearts kids are first and foremost kids before heart patients.
Families can RSVP site which is under the RSVP events tab at www.AngelsForHearts.org.
