90s. Another of Wilde’s social satires\, ‘An Ideal Husband” is a romantic
and sentimental comedy about an upstanding politician\, Robert Chiltern\,
who is haunted by his past when a blackmailer\, Mrs. Cheveley\, threatens
to reveal a youthful indiscretion and harm the happy marriage of he and h
is adoring wife\, Gertrude Chiltern. It is up to his wife and his uninspir
ed\, but utterly charming\, long time friend\, Lord Goring\, to confront t
his dilemma\, but it could risk Goring's chances to finally win over Rober
t’s sister\, Mabel. As the comments and lies begin to fly about\, it's rev
ealed that the man thought to be perfect is flawed\, the man with all the
flaws must do something right\, and the question remains: what makes an id
eal husband?
